Connected car security company CIOT is attracting attention in related fields with its hardware-based OTA security module. Unlike general security companies centered on software, it provides an optimized security solution with hardware-linked security technology that considers the vehicle's eletronic-environment, and is rapidly growing in the automotive security field.

According to the industry on the 8th, a paradigm shift in automobiles is rapidly taking place as autonomous vehicles and connected cars incorporating ICT technologies are spreading. The key technology for this paradigm shift is 'OTA (Over-The-Air)'.

OTA is a technology that remotely updates in-vehicle software without visiting a service center. The target is software that operates electronic components, which are rapidly changing with the advent of electric vehicles. It is divided into 'Software OTA (SOTA)', which improves the existing in-vehicle systems such as navigation and infotainment, and 'Firmware OTA (FOTA)', which upgrades the performance of the vehicle itself, such as power units.

OTA is considered a key feature of future cars in that software updates for infotainment and other electronic components increase the added value of the vehicle through continuous updates, and the defects and performance of the vehicle itself can be upgraded without recall.

Connected car security company CIOT is expanding in the security market with a hardware-based OTA security module. In fact, since 2020, sales have grown by 200% annually. In 2021, sales reached 180% compared to the previous year, and this year, it has already secured orders that are more than 2.5 times the size of the previous year. In particular, the OTA security sector is expected to grow at a high rate of 300% this year.

CIOT's OTA security module provides secure boot and hardware security module (HSM)-based secure storage and secure programming through a high-speed security interface during firmware OTA in accordance with global OEM security standards. Currently, Hyundai-Kia Motors is expanding its scope by securing mass-produced electronic parts customers.

In addition, CIOT's OTA security module is a product that meets international standards for automotive cyber security, and is accelerating its advancement into overseas markets by discussing commercialization with major business partners in the European automotive cyber security market.

Park HyeonJu, CEO of CIOT, said, “CIOT’s security module technology can be easily applied to automotive electronic parts that are difficult to apply existing security technologies, so inquiries from autonomous driving terminal suppliers and electric vehicle parts companies are rapidly increasing. As the international standards for automotive cyber security established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe are fully implemented, a steeper growth is expected this year.”
