CIOT (CEO Park Hyun-joo), a company specializing in Connected car security, announced on the 9th that it was selected as the organizer of the autonomous vehicle security evaluation technology development project among the 'autonomous driving technology development project' promoted by the government-wide autonomous driving technology development and innovation project group (KADIF).

KADIF is an institution jointly launched by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the National Police Agency.

The field where CIOT was selected is the new vehicle convergence technology within the Ministry of Science and ICT. CIOT is the organizer of 'Autonomous vehicle data and V2X communication network security evaluation technology and test standards development' worth up to 5.4 billion for 4 years, and is doing business with the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association, Korea Automobile Research Institute, ICS, Hansung University, and Blue Tech. 

Through this project, CIOT will develop self-driving internal and external network and data security evaluation technology and test standards to secure the reliability and safety of autonomous vehicles. In addition, through the development of terminal and emulator-based security evaluation test tools, automation technology that verifies the reliability and safety of security technologies applied in autonomous vehicles is also developed.

Currently, in the global automobile market, the application of cyber security to automobiles is legally compulsory led by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). However, given that there is no specific self-driving car cyber security certification evaluation method and procedure in Korea, there is a lot of anticipation for the security evaluation technology for autonomous driving vehicles to be developed by CIOT.

Through this project, CIOT has shortened development cost and time for security evaluation and application of security technology to acquire cyber security certification for autonomous vehicles, thereby revitalizing domestic next-generation electronic component companies to advance into the global market and a new business field for ICT cyber convergence security specialists. It is expected to be of great help to entry.

Park HyeonJu, CEO of CIOT, said, “According to global legislation, it is required to obtain a certification that meets international standards due to the mandatory cyber security certification for autonomous vehicles, but there is no specific method and procedure for evaluating cyber security certification for autonomous vehicles so far. We expect that the self-driving vehicle security evaluation technology will make it more convenient to obtain these security certifications and will greatly contribute to accelerating the commercialization of autonomous vehicles in Korea.”
