CIOT, Partnership with NXP in recognition of understanding the automotive and technical know-how in implementing hardware security modules

Through partnerships with global semiconductor companies, CIOT is gaining global competitiveness

CIOT (CEO Park Hyun-joo), a company specialized in Connected Car security, announced that it has signed an ‘automotive OTA security solution module partnership’ with NXP® Semiconductors, a world leader in secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications.

NXP is providing secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications, which are key components in the automotive semiconductor field. The technology of wirelessly updating the firmware of electronic components (F-OTA) requires semiconductor companies' technology and an optimized hardware security solution that enhances the integrity and reliability of the firmware.

As the technology required for this, NXP’s solutions has been recently strategically introduced through firmware updates that are installed and operated wirelessly in electronic components. This is because, when defects are found in the vehicle, maintenance costs can be reduced as well as new services can be provided.

CIOT was selected as one of NXP's OTA security solution partner in recognition of its technical know-how of implementing and applying an optimized lightweight hardware security solution in the embedded environment along with its understanding of the automotive electronics environment so far. Through this partnership, they plan to actively collaborate to improve the security performance of automotive semiconductors.

This partnership will start with security implementation of CIOT Wireless Update (OTA) centering on NXP's next-generation radar processor (S32R294). NXP's innovative vehicle S32R294 processor based on 16-nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology is drawing attention as a next-generation radar platform, that can provide scalable performance for advanced multimode use cases, not only for NCAP and advanced corner radars, but also advanced multimode use cases such as long-range forward radar, simultaneous blind spot detection, lane change assistance, and altitude detection.

Based on the radar processor, CIOT is planning to implement wireless update (OTA) security technologies such as Secure Flash and Hardware Security Module (HSM) that meet global OEM standards.

CIOT's signing of this partnership is globally meaningful as the advent of self-driving vehicles and electric vehicles has made cybersecurity mandatory for automobiles and the demand for automotive semiconductors is rapidly increasing.

Park Hyun-joo, CEO of CIOT, said, “We expect that CIOT’s influence in the global security market will be further expanded through this partnership with NXP. Also, as the requirements for automotive cybersecurity at home and abroad are increasing, we plan to further strengthen our technological competitiveness in the global Connected Car field by improving core-level security through partnership with NXP.”
